Boston, MA, March 2018 -- Innovative recording entrepreneur John Newton, founder of Soundmirror Recording, recently renovated his recording studios in Boston with Sommer cable’s 4-conductor Elephant cable and has ordered 100 meters of Sommer’s Monolith cable for his location recording work.

“We use Sommer’s large size Elephant speaker cable in the studios that we are renovating,” Newton explains. “We have three listening rooms and we go through a program on a regular basis to electrically and acoustically upgrade these studios every eight or ten years. We've noticed that as the equipment gets better, our acoustic listening conditions also have to get better. And so we are using Sommer speaker cable permanently installed in our listening rooms.”

Founded in 1972 by John Newton, Soundmirror has grown to become a leading classical music recording and production company. Excellent customer service combined with a respected team of experienced engineers and producers has become the trademark of Soundmirror. http://www.soundmirror.com/

“Sommer uses the highest quality copper wire,” Newton continues, “and its reliability has never been questioned. They make a number of different speaker cables, so we have the option to choose exactly what we need. And the service is wonderful. It gets delivered within a few days of placing an order, and the first time we got it, it worked perfectly. So, for the next studio renovation we simply bought more of it.  And we will have another order coming up this year because we're renovating another one of our listening rooms over the summer.”

“Although most people think that recorded music happens in perfectly controlled studio environments, this is usually not the case with classical recording,” Newton explains. “Soundmirror specializes in taking the recording process to the music and working to get the most natural sound possible from a wide variety of acoustic spaces.” Newton brings in his own state-of-the-art equipment as well as materials for treating spaces with the goal of creating an optimum natural sound in every venue encountered.

“What we discovered we needed in our field recording work,” Newton continues, “was a cable that combined 100 volt power and a microphone cable, to send communications to our tower talk back speakers, which is an integral component of our location recording work. Sommer had a couple of choices of these kinds of cables, so we picked the one that fit our needs. We have bought more than 100 meters of that cable so far and it’s working perfectly. We do all the termination of our cables ourselves and Sommer’s Monolith is exactly what we needed.”

"We do our recording on location throughout North America and sometimes Europe, Russia, and other exotic locales," Newton explains. “Some of our equipment is custom built as we continue to push the envelope of technology forward. We have achieved outstanding results in concert halls, opera houses, theatres, churches, and cathedrals.” Newton has recorded for every major classical record label and Soundmirror's orchestral, solo, opera, and chamber recordings have received over 80 Grammy nominations and awards.
