Sometimes it depends on the length
Unlike copper cables and fomer active cables, AOC cables achieve a higher range, they are more flexible and lighter. To bridge the long distances of up to 100 m (328 ft.) the required converters are built right into the connector housings. Moreover, no additional power supply is needed. The diameter of the hybrid line used here is only 4.5mm (0.177 in.). Owing to the utilized aramid fibers it can even withstand a breaking force of 200 N.
