silver-plated audio cables are a popular topic for discussion. From a purely technical point of view, this precious metal has the best electrical conductivity of all metals.

As far as the sonic impression is concerned, opinions on sense and nonsense of such cables often differ greatly. Here Sommer cable tries to shed a light into the darkness: those different opinions are because silver is “alive“ due to the natural oxidation. Unlike copper oxyde, silver oxyde is conductive, i.e. its electrical and mechanical properties can vary slightly over a longer period of time. This also causes the tone color to change, which is why we may observe different audiophile impressions and some musicians or hi-fi enthusiasts perceive the sound of a silver cable as rather neutral, cool or treble-prone.

Of course, Sommer cable wants to avoid such irritations and discussions and therefore uses for the SC-SILVER SPIRIT only tightly, concentrically stranded class 6N (OFC 99. 9999%) copper wires, which are then refined and smoothed with the silver alloy of the highest quality grade (935/1000) so they will deliver a lasting performance and can be processed also with silver solder neatly and without electrical losses.

The double-shielded SC-SILVER SPIRIT (1 x 0.22 mm² / 0.00155 sq in.) has a flexible, yet robust outer jacket of 7.4 mm (0.29 in.) in thickness made of a temperature-resistant PVC compound and is fitted with the most advanced gas-foamed and smoothed wire insulation. It offers an extremely clear, clean sound and is recommended as a high-class guitar, bass and instrument cable for studio and stage and also for use as an unbalanced cable for keyboards, samplers, mixing consoles and hi-fi systems.

ATTENTION: the black carbon screen between the braided shield and the insulating jacket has a high conductivity. It is absolutely necessary to remove it prior to soldering.
